Wills as Protection for Your Children

In 1872, Charlotte E. Ray became the first Black woman lawyer in America, choosing to specialize in wills and property law because she knew that legal documentation was the ultimate tool for protecting a family's future. Today, that data is more critical than ever, because over 60% of Americans still leave their children unprotected by dying without a basic will.

My client, Arianna*, is a single mother who wanted to ensure her children would be raised by her sister, not entangled in a state custody battle, if the unexpected happened. By drafting a comprehensive estate plan and legally enforceable guardianship designation, I secured her family's future in writing.

My background in social work and as the child of an ICU nurse means that intimidating, uncomfortable topics like mortality and turn it into seamless, deeply comforting planning experiences.

I’m perfect for single parents who are constantly working to build an inheritance or college fund, yet haven’t officially put a legal safety net on paper.

Ask them, “If you had to choose one person to raise your kids tomorrow, who would it be?”
