Qualifying Sibling Groups

In Georgia, a child qualifies for an enhanced monthly adoption assistance if they are considered "special needs". One common special needs category is being part of a sibling group.

My client, Antavious*, took in his two younger sisters and assumed monthly state aid was reserved only for children with severe medical conditions but asked me for help setting up government benefits. Because he was caring for them in an informal arrangement, that wasn’t possible.  We were able to work with the State to not only get TANF in place, but become a kinship placement with monthly subsidies while the adoption was in process.
