Surrogacy: DIY more like DI-Cry
Last week, we talked about the pitfalls of interstate surrogacy but even among friends here in Georgia there can be complications.
My clients, Jessica* and Ryan*, needed help with their fertility and asked Jessica's sister to act as surrogate. They had a do-it-yourself turkey baster surrogacy -something ill-advised here in Georgia- and when baby Bryan* was born, his birth certificate didn't mention Jessica or Ryan as parents. That's when they came to me. We were able to complete a post-birth parentage order and get an updated birth certificate that showed Jessica and Ryan as the parents they were.
Now Jessica gets to be the mother she always wanted to be.
I'm perfect for Tommy who likes to be his own handyman. Ask him how many times he pulled the assembly instructions out of the garbage before he finished.
