The Trouble with Surrogates
Families come in all shapes and sizes but Georgia Law only automatically gave legal rights to one kind- married couples who then had children the old fashioned way. For surrogacy, a court needs to get involved so your surrogate isn't considered a parent to your child.
My client Arash* had always wanted to be a father. He followed the policies of the clinic that helped him find an egg donor and a surrogate.
The clinic was out of state but the baby was born here in Georgia. They didn't have the right paperwork done beforehand so the birth certificate was all wrong.
Luckily, there was a surrogacy contract through the clinic. We were able to get an expedited termination of parental rights for the surrogate and her husband and now Arash is the legal father to little Zahir*.
Iām a great referral for parents-to-be who want to spend their parental leave with their baby and not in court.
