The Importance of Adoption Assistance

Affordability is sustainability. Once an adoption goes through there are tax write-offs and credits. For DFCS adoptions, there is something extra: Adoption Assistance. Adoption Assistance is the name of break it for many families.

That was the case for Mrs. Pratchett*. She wanted to adopt her three granddaughters out of foster care but as a retiree on a fixed income, adding three new girls under 10 would stretch her to the max. Because she was adopting a sibling group, we were able to negotiate an enhanced monthly stipend and connect her with community and government resources to set her and the girls up for success.

5 years later, the eldest granddaughter is entering high school and trying out for cheerleading this fall.
